Story Behind It
The history of Livadi Beach is directly connected to the presence of the Holy Monastery of Archangel Michael, which dominates the hill directly above it. Historically, the beach and the surrounding area served as the accessible coastline for the Monastery, meeting the monks' needs for access to the sea and perhaps for small-scale cultivation, which inspired the name "Livadi" meaning "Meadow.
" The shore is nestled within a deep natural bay, surrounded by pine trees and rocky formations that reach the water, creating a protected geomorphology with serene, almost tropical waters and a rich seabed. Near Livadi is the Arsanas, a neighboring cove that derives its name from the historical term for a seaside building where monastic ships were moored, underscoring the timeless and practical importance of this coastal area to the monastic community above.
