Story Behind It
The history of Psili Ammos Beach is primarily geological and revolves around the unique quality of its terrain. The exceptionally fine sand is the result of long-term erosion of the area's rocks, combined with the protected location of the cove, which prevents waves from washing away the finest particles.
An interesting natural detail is that clean, fresh water springs directly from the seabed. This explains why its waters remain incredibly crystalline and refreshingly cool, even during the peak of summer. Opposite the beach lies the islet of Panagia (or Foundouki), which adds a picturesque element to the landscape.
Its name refers to a chapel or shrine that is believed to have existed there, reinforcing the area's connection to the spiritual heritage of Thassos.
